Cultural reserve record of the municipality of Farsala









a) Farsala's Archaeological Collection  (currently not open for public, due to ongoing processes of renewal and relocation of the old building of the First Elementary School of Farsala, which was recently featured by the Central Council of Modern Monuments of the Ministry of Culture as a monument of architectural heritage).

b) Folklore Museum in Chalkiades community (can be visited).

c) Folklore Museum in Saint Georgios community (can be visited).

d) Folklore Museum in Elliniko community (can be visited).



a) Acropolis of Farsala on top of Prophet Elias hill, and Agia Paraskevi hill - the prehistoric ancient core of Pharsalus (listed as archaeological site).

b) Three ancient funerary monuments in the city of Farsala in expropriated land (listed monument).

c) Parts of Pharsalus's ancient wall with gates and towers that are visible on expropriated land (listed monument).

All of the above are embedded in a relevant EE program, though the completion of which they will have been preserved and  the architectural remains of the ancient city of Farsala will become visible, something which will give the city an archaeological journey, coupled with  the necessary explanatory signs.

d) Karamichos's Tower, almost in Farsala's city center. This is a typical tower of the Ottoman period (early 18th century), with exceptional architectural importance because of its uniqueness and its age in Thessaly. It is a listed monument and belongs to the Municipality of Farsala which is in the process of studies for its restoration and conversion into a theme museum.

e) Old building of the First Elementary School of Farsala, which was  recently featured by the Central Council of Modern Monuments of the Ministry of Culture as a historical monument of great importance for the history of education in Greece, evidence of the evolution of architecture schools. The process of transforming it into the roof of the Archaeological Collection of Farsala has already begun, in collaboration with Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities Ephorate of Larissa as well as the  "Modern Monuments Ephorate of Volos", which develop relevant studies.

f) Multi-arched stone bridge over the river Enipeas, between Lamia and Larissa, built at the end of the 18th century (listed monument).

g) Church of Panagia Demerliotissa in Stavros Farsalon ,1778 (listed monument).

h) Agion Anargyron Church in Zoodochos Pigi Farsalon , 1638 (listed monument).

i) Roman army camp in Zoodochos Pigi Farsalon (declared as an archaeological site).

j) Church of the Presentation of Christ in Thetidio Farsalon. It is a unique "underground" church, immersed, ie, half buried in the earth, who was allegedly originally built in 1100 and decorated in 1438.

k)Durbali Soultan Bechtasi Tekkes in Asprogeia Farsalon, 1492 (listed monument).

l) Kyzeridis' Konaki in Polyneri Farsalon. Considered to having been built by Venetians and its original building reaches back to 1585. (listed monument).

m) Konaki, property of Achilles Vasileiou, in Palaiomylos Farsalon. Typical estate manor of the late 19th - early 20th century (listed monument).

n) Ancient Eretria (declared as an archaeological site).

o) Ancient Scotoussa (declared as an archaeological site).

p) Kastro Kallitheas - Ancient Pevma.

In Eretria, Scotoussa and in Kastro Kallithea, the Municipality of Farsala will fund (starting this year) excavations, starting from Eretria and continuing through Skotoussa and Kastro Kallithea.

q) Chtouri Hill - Ancient Evidrio (declared as an archaeological site).

r) Cave Alogopati (Karapla position, 1 km sotuh of Farsala), where there is an ancient temple dedicated to the worship of Pan and the Nymphs.

s) Cave Vrysia, of great speleological interest with rich stalactites and stalagmites in the exploration of which the Speleological Society expressed its interest.

t) Traditional stone fountain of the 18th century with twenty one tanks - water troughs on either sides located in Zoodochus Pigi of Farsala (listed monument).

u)Traditional stone built fountain of the 18th century, found in Karagiouli Kallitheas of Farsala. Located in the foothills of the site "Castle Kallithea", a region which will be transformed into an archaeological park through a funding proposal tabled by the City.

v) Stone built bell tower of the 19th century in Neraida of Farsala.

w) Stone built fountain in Varoussi Farsala, an area that also constitutes a listed site.

x) Traditional stone built water tanks at Varousi Farsala. The restoration and enhancement of these tanks is included in funding from ESPA (listed monuments).

y) The Western Ancient Cemetery of Pharsalus. The work of the emergence of a series of graves, so the cemetery can be toured, is progressing through the Municipality's collaboration with the Municipality 15th EPKA of Larissa. The project is funded by the regular income of the Municipality.

z) Church of St. George in Sitochoro of Farsala. Presumably dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. Its interesting pictorial decoration is partly plastered.

aa) The stone built pit, mostly known as "Tsingene" pit in  Saint Konstantinos of Farsala. According to local tradition the well is in the area since ancient times.

bb) Two arched stone built bridges from the Ottoman period in Neraida Farsalon.

cc) Stone built fountain in Dentra Farsalon. Labeled with date 1898. It is assumed that the construction of the fountain is earlier than the date reported.

1) Stone built fountain with water troughs of the Ottoman period in Dilofo Farsalon. The Fountain is almost completely covered with mortar.

λα) Bell tower of St. Nicholaos Church of Farsala, 19th century



No private collections exist in the municipality of Farsala. Worth mentioning is only the private archaeological collection "Karamanoli." Karamanolis, a notary from Farsala, has created quite a rich archaeological collection with works dating from the Early Neolithic Period to the Ottoman period and originate almost exclusively from the area of Farsala. Part of the collection has been donated to the Timeless Museum of Larissa, while the rest is in his private accomodation in Larissa and is not open to public.



The geographical boundaries of the broader Municipality of Farsala do not contain traditional settlements.

d) Mansion Tsitsilonis in Farsala.

e) Old stone-made traditional schools in local communities: Ampelia, Platanos, Vrisia, Kato Vassilika (this school was donated by the bequest of Andrew Syngros), Pigi, Elliniko, Stavros, Skopia, Neraida, Saint Konstantinos, Eretria, Palaiomylos, Polydameio, Ano Chalkiades, Dassolofos, Stavros, Vamvakou ( the old school of Vamvakou is of special architectural interest. Through time it was converted to house  the needs of the former Municipality of Polydamas and now houses the offices of the Municipal Unit City of Polydamantas, part of  broader Municipality of Farsala).

There are no theaters in Farsala, except only the special hall inside the Cultural Centre of Farsala.





a) Celebrations of Cultural August, with events from all local communities in the municipality.

b) Celebration of Halvas (traditional sweet) in city of Farsala, always accompanied by cultural events.

c) Celebration of Pie in local community Stavros Farsalon.

d) Wheat Festival in local community Euhydrio Farsalon.

e) Kathara Deutera (Clear Monday) celebration in local community Narthaki Farsalon.

f) Kathara Deutera (Clear Monday) celebration in local community Vrisia Farsalon.

g) Kathara Deutera (Clear Monday) celebration in local community Ypereia Farsalon.

h) Festival of Pligouri (wheat seed)in local community Chalkiades Farsalon.

i) Bread Festival in local community  Skotousa Farsalon.



a) Homeric hero Achilles.

b) Ancient godess and heroes: Thetis, Peleus, Patroclus.

There is no commemorative event organized in honor of the aforementioned persons exept the yearly athletic event "Achillios Athlos", a semi-marathon route.



In all communities and settlements of the broader Municipality of Farsala and of course in the city of Farsala are  annually held solemn celebrations in honor of local saints. In most cases, these two-day events are:
